FRIDAY NIGHT 1998 is a retro-inspired point-and-click adventure game set over a single Friday Night in 1998 (October 23rd to be specific). Controlling Erik, a high school junior at a west Texas high school (Midland, TX), players are taken on comedic and dramatic adventure that aims to recreate the aimless nights many of us 90’s teens experienced. A love letter to the late 90’s and my old home town, this game is meant bring back all aspects of 90’s nostalgia, both good and the bad, while telling a compelling story about why the people you know matter more than the things you do.

Combining retro aesthetics and gameplay, FRIDAY NIGHT 1998 also has a modern slant with deeply written characters and a banging soundtrack featuring Bloom/Pool, Cosmic Stranger, and many more being added!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHEN IS THE GAME COING OUT: The game is still early in development so a timeline for completion is still a ways off. The goal right now is for the working demo to debut in time for the 2024 Classic Game Fest in Austin, TX in July.

WHERE WILL I BE ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME: Initially, the game will be designed for PC, Mobile (Both IOS and Android), and Nintendo Switch initially.

WHAT ARE YOU USING TO MAKE THE GAME: Pixaki and Photoshop for character and level design. Unity with Adventure Creator is the game engine.

WHY SET THE GAME IN WEST TEXAS: Because that’s where I grew up. This game is both a love letter and a reckoning of the trauma I endured being a non-Spanish speaking Latino with a cop dad in a mid-sized town that put football and religion above all else. Plus, any chance I can take to realize an idealized version of my youth, I’m taking it.
